Panic button, duress button, duress alarm, and personal alarm all describe some version of the same idea: a way to signal for help quickly, without a phone call or a conversation. What "Duress" Specifically Means
A duress signal is built for a situation where the person needing help can't say so out loud, because someone dangerous is standing right there. Classic examples are a bank teller's foot pedal under a counter, or a code word an employee is trained to say on the phone that means "I'm not safe, but I can't tell you that directly." A panic button is the broader category: any button that summons help fast, whether or not concealment is part of the design.
Fixed vs Wearable
A fixed button, mounted under a desk, at a reception counter, or by a door, only works if the person in danger can get to that exact spot. A wearable version goes wherever the person goes, which matters most for anyone whose job isn't spent sitting at one desk: a home health aide moving through a house, a housekeeper working room to room, an agent walking a property.
