Coming Home From Hospital or Surgery

The weeks straight after a discharge are when falls are most likely and when there is usually nobody in the house. This is the situation a no-contract system was made for.

Why this period specifically

Someone comes home weaker than they went in, often on new medication, sometimes with a walker they are not used to, and frequently alone for stretches of the day once family has gone back to work. Bathrooms and stairs account for most of it. The risk is temporary but it is real, and it lands at exactly the moment everyone is tired and nothing is set up.

Use it for six weeks and send it back. There is no contract and no minimum term, so a recovery-length rental is a perfectly normal thing to do with us. Order it, use it while it matters, ask for a prepaid return label when it does not, and we stop billing when it is back. Nobody will try to talk you out of it.

Getting it there in time

  • Order before the discharge date if you can. Most orders arrive in 2 to 5 business days and shipping is free, so ordering the day they come home usually means a gap.
  • No installation visit to wait for. It plugs in, you press the button once to test it, and it is working. That matters when you are also managing prescriptions and a follow-up appointment.
  • Ship it to their address, pay on your card. Adult children do this constantly and it is no trouble.

Which one for a recovery

For most post-hospital situations the answer is an at-home system with fall detection, $35.95/mo, because the specific worry is a fall where they cannot reach the button. If they are steady enough to be out and about during recovery, or you want family to see they are moving about, look at the Belle X instead.

Fall detection is a backup, not a guarantee. No fall-detection technology catches every fall, and a slow slide out of a chair often does not register. It is worth having for this period, and it is not a reason to skip pressing the button when they can.

If the recovery goes well

Plenty of families keep it anyway, because the scare changed how they think about being alone in the house. Plenty send it back. Both are fine, and we will not make the second one difficult. See the cancel page for exactly how that works.
